DJ Moz
As I start this page, I have to look back to appreciate where God has brought me from. God blessed me with a great opportunity to pioneer as a Gospel DJ in Kenya and maybe Africa. Back in Dec 1999 when I started, there was very little Urban Gospel Music available. Getting Gospel hip-hop and R&B was hard. Dancehall and reggae was even harder. And there were very very few Urban Gospel artists in the country. The churches did not know what to do with me and the whole thing about being a Christian DJ (DJs are supposed to play in the clubs) and the same applied to the few crop of Urban artists. Our style was different from the church norm.
Radio stations did not care much for Gospel Music and those that played it didn't have much music that resonated with the young people.
But, there were people who believed in me when I started and I want to give a massive shout out to them: My friend and partner in crime Gowi Odera, Pastor Charles of Malaka Hill Chapel and Sarah Oyungu, thank you all for believing in me and allowing me to introduce this new style of outreach to young people. I will never forget my experience at my first event as a Gospel DJ on New Years Eve 1999, Nairobi 2000. The event was epic and it opened doors for me with the young people. Thank you guys. Njuguna Waiguru aka Njugush, you are my brother and I appreciate the journey that God has led us through the years. It's not been easy, but we've held on and seen God come through for us in many ways. Mad shout out to the people I have worked and walked with along the way. Oscar Arigi, Ashley Ndambo, Shawn Koonce, Becky Muikia, Kambua, Gee Gee, Loren Hill, Sal Sberna, DJ Soxxy, DJ Celeb, DJ Sanch, Bob, Carol, Joe, Pete, Tismo, Marion, Sally, Andy, Linda, Joanne, Dama, Frank the DJ, Annie The DJ ++.
18 years later, I look back and see how far we have come and how God has led us along the way. We have come to a place where Gospel Music has become one of the most appreciated music in Kenya and growing globally. It blows my mind away to hear the music being played in clubs and pubs. Where else is this happening around the world? It has become our lifestyle. And the radio stations that shunned our music before are all playing it. Our events are packed out and I dare say Christian events are the best organized and attended in Kenya. Thank you to all who have made a sacrifice to see the industry grow to where it is today. Our labor is not in vain. I love what the Lord has done and I am excited about what lies ahead.
To all believers, let us keep our eyes above where Christ is and let us stretch out hands our and reach out to a world that is broken and in need of a Savior.
I Love my wife Debs and kids Zara & Alba.
I Love music.
I Love my Lord.
I Love my Kulture and I'm not ashamed to say, "I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ."
